01  Who this is for

Athletes with a race on the calendar

If you have a start line and you are tired of guessing, this is built for you. Three common starting points:

First raceFinish strong

HYROX or a first half marathon. You want to cross the line in control and enjoy it, without blowing up on the run after the sleds.

Time goalTrain to a number

You have a target time. You have trained hard but the result has stalled, and you want pacing and sessions chosen from your own data.

Hybrid gapFix the weak half

Strong but slow, or fast but flat. You want strength and running to build each other instead of competing for recovery.

Not forQuick fixes

If you want a result in under six weeks or will not commit to a minimum of three training days, this is not the right fit. I would rather say so now.

02  How it works

One race, one plan, built back from your date

Most builds run for around 16 weeks. If your race is closer or further away, the same structure is shortened or stretched to fit your date.

16 weeksA typical build
Wk 1

Test

A baseline test week sets your zones.

Wk 2 to 8

Build

Aerobic base, strength twice a week, and running volume that your legs can absorb. Adjusted every week from your check-in.

Wk 9 to 14

Race specific

Compromised running, station work and pace practice at the effort you will actually race at.

Wk 15 to 16

Race

Taper and race plan.

The typical shape of a build. Your plan changes with your schedule, your fatigue and your results.

05  Your coach

I train for the same start lines

I am Alex Watson, a Scotland-based coach. I race what I coach, I test my own numbers, and I share the process, so you can judge the work before you pay for it.

CredentialsQualified

BSc (Hons), Level 3 Personal Trainer, Level 1 Strength and Conditioning.

TestingLab numbers

I had my own VO2 max and lactate threshold tested at a university sports science lab, then trained to the results. The same logic shapes your training zones.

Venice MarathonRaced it

I ran the Venice Marathon alongside Harvey on 25 October 2026.

RacingHybrid athlete

HYROX, half marathons and marathons, including the Venice Marathon in October 2026. Alongside that: strength work, open water swimming, and an ultramarathon run with friends for charity.

06  Questions

Before you decide

Which races do you coach for?

HYROX, and running races from 5km up to ultramarathons, for men and women. Your plan is written back from your own race date, so tell me the event and the date when you apply.

Can I cancel?

Yes. You can cancel any time. There are no refunds, but you keep full access to the month you have already paid for.

What if I am injured or returning from injury?

Tell me when you apply. If you need clearance from a physio before training hard, I will ask you to get it first. I would rather start you a week later than a month behind.

How do I pay?

Coaching is a monthly subscription. After our call I send you a payment link to set it up, and nothing is taken before we have spoken.
